I believe that human brains default to addition. This is why we spend more than we should, why we feel so rushed, why we eat more than we need, why our houses and to-do lists are so cluttered, and why we expect so much from ourselves and others.
“Expectation” itself is a transformative structure that can either inspire us into new ways of thinking and acting or move us toward disappointment. It’s a process of reconstructing new meaning from old narratives given to us by society, cultural biases, family, and our own interpretation of how we should fit into cultural norms. It’s about becoming more free-ranged and letting go of your domesticated leash.
(Anti-)Social media shouts out the success and everything that others are doing and it creates this mounting pressure that we not doing, we are not moving fast enough, as bosses, workers, mums, weekend warriors, friends, lovers, parents, siblings, or grandparents. We have to be able and willing to step outside the pull of unhealthy cultural norms and make a delicious space in our days to do our meaningful thinking.
I’ve conquered any stress that arose from moving away from what well-intentioned others expected from me, from the rushing, from the ‘shoulds’, and from the disconnection with my own inner knowing. It’s now so uncomplicated for me to intuitively understand my nutrition, exercise, movement, mindset, and rebuilding flux that my body needs to live a beautiful, healthy, and fulfilling life.
